CHAT FROM THE MAT

Term three is racing away with all the action we’ve been seeing at Edge over the last few weeks.

We’ve been thrilled to see Edge membership numbers continue to grow, hitting 800 active members recently!! This is the highest number of members we’ve reached in a term and we’re doing backflips of delight over it! After the last few years of lockdowns and locked doors there’s no better sight than seeing our gym full of smiling, happy faces again – and that goes for the coaches as well as the kids! We truly love what we do here at Edge and all the wonderful people we get to meet and have fun with on a daily basis.

Thank you to all our members and families for for being such an important part of our community, you are what makes it so special. And please, keep spreading the word – we want to help as many people as possible experience the magic of gymnastics at every level.

We’ve been loving seeing the Australian Gymnastics team in action at the Commonwealth games. There’s nothing quite as inspirational as seeing athletes competing at the top of their field and performing their best and no doubt it’s a huge source of aspriation for our teams who’ve also been giving it their all at recent competitions with plenty more to come in the next few months. See pages 3-4 for the schedule and photos of our fabulous teams.

Skill Testing Weeks 5 & 6 8 - 19 August

At Edge, we strive to teach quality and technically correct gymnastics at every level, so we can develop each athlete to the best of their ability. We have our own assessment system for the Development Gymnastics Program that allows us track the progress of our gymnasts and determine if they’re ready for the next level. Testing is carried out each term with individual results accessible through the customer portal in week 9.

We have restructured the assessment system in 2022 year to better reflect developmental needs with a greater focus on quality. The goal is to develop stronger foundations so our gymnasts are better prepared for more advanced skills in the future. This system will be in place until the end of the year when we will review again to determine if any further changes are needed.

Our team are always happy to help if you have questions or feedback about the assessment system. Please feel free to drop us an e-mail or chat with our admin team when you’re next at the gym!

What does my child have to do?

Gymnasts are assessed on set skills on vault, Bars, and Floor they will have been working on throughout the term.

How are they assessed?

To receive a star for each skill, the gymnast is required to perform it competently, to the expected standard. When your child achieves all stars for each level they will be determined if they are ready to progress.

What if my child is ready for the next class?

Once results are processed, we'll notify parents of any class changes. Every effort will be made to keep classes on the same day to avoid interruptions to schedules, but please let us know if you would like to request a change. The class schedules can be viewed on our website or through the customer portal.

What if my child is absent in testing weeks?

No problem! We can assess them in week 8, they’ll just receive their results a little later. If they miss all three weeks, please let us know and we’ll do our best to arrange an assessment during the during the holidays. If your child is unable to be assessed at all they’ll remain in the same level for the next term and continue to work on perfecting every skill.

VIEWING WEEKS 6 & 7 ~ 15-26 AUGUST

This is a great chance to come and see all the skills your kids have been working hard on. You’ll receive an email with your allocated time to view your child’s class this term, please contact the office if you’re unsure of your child’s week. We ask that you adhere to your time and limit the numbers of spectators attending to ensure safety for everyone.
Edge is a supportive team environment and the wellbeing of our gymnasts is paramount, please ensure you abide by the following rules to ensure the safety and privacy for everyone:
Spectators are NOT to move around the gym, please remain in the allocated area all times. Inappropriate or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated, please be mindful and respectful to all people within the gym, including other parents, staff and students.
We ask that family members do not use the toilets unless strictly necessary.
No photos or videos are to be taken by parents. Please ask your child’s coach to do this on your behalf to ensure other members are not photographed.

GOODBYE & GOOD LUCK COACH ANNA!

We bid a fond farewell to our much loved Coach Anna recently as she heads off to Stanford University in California on a four year hockey scholarship.

Anna was a gymnast within our competitive program from 2016-2017 and a coach since 2018.

We’re all sad to see her go but so thrilled for her achievement and adventures ahead as she chases her dreams. We can’t wait to hear about all of her successes!
